WhatsApp was a mid way between SMS and Online Messaging, which changed the way of messaging and quickly became our favorite messaging app.
But biggest problem with WhatsApp is that its paid on iOS and needs paid subscription on Android/Win Phone/BB/Symbian OS from the second year onwards.
Lets take a quick look at some great WhatsApp alternatives which offer more features than WhatsApp, also support multiple mobile platforms and they are FREE
Before discussing the alternatives, you should be well versed what are major qualities you want to find in the alternatives of WhatsApp.
- It should have the compatibility for multi-platform (Android, WP, iOS, BB etc.) as WhatsApp has.
- It should be rich in media exchange such as in video and audio exchange.
- It should contain all of the goodies like emoticons.

Everybody has a facebook account now a days. The App is different than your regular facebook app.
The Facebook Messenger app for both iOS and Android has been around for some time now and since you’re connected to most of the friends you want to communicate with, Facebook Messenger can be a great WhatsApp replacement.
Pros: Number of friends you can chat with this messenger is as large as your fb friends!
Cons: Not available for Win Phones and Blackberry. You can’t use it to communicate with friends who are not on Facebook.
Another fast growing app which is used in all over the world and also being most downloaded. You can send video and voice message through Line Messenger this one is also come in Windows Phone Blackberry iPhone Android and PC. You can register yourself by entering your number as per WhatsApp method.
Pros: PC app is also available so you can also reply the msgs from you computer. Audio calling option is there.
Available on every platform.
5. Kik Messenger
You register on Kik with your email address, then choose a unique username to allow other users to find you. The app is very simple and does a good job in sending messages to individuals or group. There are no calling capabilities but you have the overall basic messaging functionality supported on a wide variety of mobile systems, for free.
