How to block ads in Android apps/games

Ads are necessary evil. They are annoying. I feel really cheapo when I see ads on my phone’s screen.

Ads, they’re everywhere; on your free apps, free websites, on your blog [ Well, I support ads to blogging part. Cause it’s an income for a blogger 😉 ], Even if we don’t like them and ignore them, they’re still worth hundreds and millions of dollars.

You are using this apps, free website content etc for free because someone else is paying for it. Advertisers pay happily for their presence of their online presence. Thus, the service provider has to display ads to user in return for the income that is essential for their business. Advertisers are comepting online very aggressively as online marketing is the cheapest way to reach larger audience. As a user, you get the benefit of using this products for free with cost of some annoying ads on the screen. So, it is win-win for both user and advertisers.

But if you are sick of this ads and dont want on your screen anymore, there are some methods and here’s how we block the ads on your android devices.

This method may work on both your android roote or non-rooted device. Now, to perform this task you are need a file manager. Root Explorer, ES file explorer or Astro file manager or anyother works fine.

I – Using AddBlock Plus (ABP)

In this method we will use Ad-blocker apps, to block the ads on your apps & games. Now, thanks to large Android developers community we have number of ad-blocker apps available. AdBlock Plus and Ad away tops the list. But I will use AdBlock Plus(AB) because I have tried it and works like a charm.

One more thing, install ad-blockers using its APK file and not from Google Play Store!! (many free apk downloading websites are available)

Download ABP form Here: https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install

Follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings > Security on your Android
  • Navigate to the Unknown sources option.
  • Click the check-box, and then tap OK on the confirmation popup.

Your Android device is ready to install ad-blockers.

Best Mobile under 20000: Budget smartphones

1. Sony Xperia C
Price: 19,000
Sony’s brand new budget smartphone tops the list. Many people will think it has a Mediatek processor and they are inferior, believe me it gives satisfactory performance in real time. If you want snapdragon 600 or 800 then it won’t be a budget phone.First it’s a Sony product so good in many ways. Large 5 inch Screen is vivid and viewing angles are good again 220ppi seems to be low these days but images are color vibrant and clear. Soon you will get Android KIT KAT 4.4 update for this device. Listening to music in this phone is a pleasure. You will get original Sony Headphone worth Rs.1499 free with the phone. The biggest ADVANTAGE of this device is BATTERY. You get a humongous battery and with heavy usage it lasts for 2-3 days. Has 8 MP camera which allows HD video recording. Overall, it’s good smartphone around 20k price range.

2. Nokia LUMIA 720
Price: 16,500 INR

The Nokia Lumia 720 is powered by a powerful Dual Core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Processor which is good enough to run Win 8 OS. Lumia 720 looks more premium with its 4.3 inch display compare to Lumia 3.8 inch display. Lumia 720 is the slimmest in all the Lumia Family which is sexy.Lumia 920 with pure view, great phone but too costly, Lumia 820 not as great as 920 no pure view on it, still 24000 bucks!! Lumia 620 thickest phone and with lowest battery capacity 1300mAh only, no carl zeiss tessar lens, only 3.8″ display, Ok VGA front cam. But Lumia 720 has carl zeiss lens 6.7 MP, gorilla glass 2, great camera with 1/3.6” sensor size main cam with HD recording, flash, front cam with HD recording!, has wireless charging just like higher end lumia’s and finally superb battery of 2000mAh which is equal to Lumia 920.This device hit all the sweet spots without wiping out ur pocket. So if u going for a midrange phone with all the latest features and a great camera then this might be the one to go for! (given than device is not running by Android OS)

3. Micromax Canvas 4
Price: 16,500 INR

Large 5 inch LCD capacitive touch display that boasts of HD resolution, the Canvas 4 gives your eyes a visual treat every time you look into it. 1.2 Ghz Quad Core processor, Cortex A7 is good enough but Canvas 4 has only 1 GB RAM like CANVAS HD, considering the price it could have been 2 GB. Satisfied with the build quality of the phone. Phone looks premium as well as sturdy for daily use. Aluminum banding provides a better grip and more stability to the device, not to mention the protection towards falls.Same old 720p resolution of Canvas HD was a bummer, but considering gaming performance on PowerVR GPU, its enough. The display is more vibrant than Canvas HD and definitely better color reproduction. 2000mAh battery is an issue which drains really fast and barely lasts for a day. And yes, there are some issues with MMX’s after sales service. Which should have been improved immediately considering there are good no. of service centers in every state. If you feel that phone is overpriced, wait for a month or two.

4. Samsung Grand Duos
Price: 18,400 INR

I have several issues with this phone but in India there are very limited options if you want a brand with high end features that too under 20k.First Impression in Hand:
1. Looks pretty much like Note II, marginally smaller.
2. No HD screen but Screen / Display looks much sharper than my expectation (Though display very is weak because of WVGA resolution)
3. Profile is devoid of any edges, weight seemed appropriate for long use.Grand has broad-comm processor. I have never seen Samsung phone with broadcomm processor, this is the reason why it is cheap.
